Assisi, ore 8.16 di sabato 6 agosto 2016, dalla Torre del Popolo di Piazza del Comune il suono deciso della Campana delle Laudi dice “no” alla guerra.
Assisi non dimentica la violenza e la devastazione vissuta nel mai troppo lontano 6 agosto 1945 dalla popolazione della città giapponese di Hiroshima, distrutta dalla prima bomba atomica. Un capitolo buio nella storia dell’umanità che ogni anno ci ricorda le oltre 200.000 vittime e che anche il Comune di Assisi in collaborazione con il Centro Pace di Assisi ha voluto ricordare con il rintocco della Campana delle Laudi della Torre del Popolo alla presenza del Sindaco Stefania Proietti, degli Assessori Simone Pettirossi e Claudia Maria Travicelli e del Centro Pace nella persona del già Sindaco Gianfranco Costa.
“La città di Assisi – ha ricordato il Sindaco Proietti – si caratterizza per i gesti-segno di grande significato per la pace e la speranza nel mondo. Insieme lo scorso 6 agosto con il suono delle nostre campane abbiamo voluto dire al mondo basta alla guerra! Basta all’odio e alla follia cieca che ha devastato e sta devastando il mondo. Occorre reagire con coraggio, non dobbiamo permettere che a vincere siano la violenza e la paura. Abbiamo il dovere, come cittadini del mondo, di lavorare insieme a percorsi di pace e solidarietà e Assisi si fa promotore di questi valori e faro per tutti i popoli”.

sound of our bells we wanted to tell the world stop with the war! Stop to hate and
blind madness that have destroyed and are still destroying the world. We need to react
with courage, we must not allow that violence and fear could win. We have a duty, as
citizens of the world, to work together on the paths of peace and solidarity and Assisi
will be a promoter of these values and a lighthouse for all peoples. "
Tomorrow the 9 August we all remember the victims of the massacre of Nagasaki, the whole
city of Assisi is near in the memory of this terrible violence trying to find, in the
remembering, the strength to build a future of peace and brotherhood.
